Nyrthos: The First Chapter Released…on Facebook.

I don’t think I’ve written about Nyrthos before. This strikes me as an odd — and unfortunate — oversight, because it’s really quite a gorgeous game, and a fine homage to the 2D action RPGs of yesterdecade.I mean, the premise of the game is nothing you, seasoned RPG veteran that you are, haven’t heard before:- Fight hordes of monsters, discover mighty items, weapons and spells!- Stunning High-Definition 2D graphics with daytime and weather systems!- Compete with other players in arenas!- Harvest resources and build your own village! But even so: Nyrthos is a particularly well-done take on the action RPG motif. Which is pretty significant, since its first chapter has been released as a Facebook game, rather than as a standalone piece of software. Not that browser-based games can’t serve up excellent graphics or gameplay; they most certainly can. The problem is that few do…and thankfully, Nyrthos: The First Chapter is not one of these. It should also be noted that The First Chapter is, really, more like the alpha release of the game. The final release, which will be coming to desktops and mobiles (Android and iOS) is slated for…some time near the end of 2014. You can actually pre-order the final game on its website; it starts at $9.99.But in advance of that, why not check out The First Chapter on Facebook? It’s an unfortunately rare thing to find a good browser-based RPG, and you should take the opportunity to check one out when it comes along.- Fight hordes of monsters, discover mighty items, weapons and spells!
