Two Oakland A’s pitchers scored free pairs of Google Glass, first in MLB

Two Major League Baseball players have the great distinction of being the first two people in the MLB to have Google Glass, according to CNET on Aug. 14. Oakland Athletics’ pitchers Ryan Cook and Sean Doolittle will be sporting some rather expensive eyewear in the coming days. In order to become a Google Glass Explorer, people have had to shell out some serious cash, but these two were given the devices for free.According to SFGate, the players have already tested it out around the other players. So far their research indicates that a Google search for Brandon Moss’s name instead came up with a search for “grandma.”The players aren’t able to wear the devices during games, which is both understandable and extremely disappointing. Could you imagine seeing recordings from the pitcher’s perspective of both pitches and the resulting hits. On a more technical standpoint, SFGate ponders what it would be like for the pitchers themselves if they were able to access a player’s weaknesses as they step up to the plate. However, players will be able to wear the glasses before games.If they aren’t able to use the devices during games, it’s a little curious why the distinction was made to give Google Glass to only pitchers.
